- Sunder Lal Sharma established the Rajim Kavi Samaj in 1898-99 and was recognized as a literary figure in Hindi. He contributed significantly to shaping the Chhatisgarhi dialect into a formal language with his poetic work “Chhatisgarhi Dan-Lila” in 1905.
Freedom Struggle Leadership:
- He initiated the freedom struggle against British rule in Chhatisgarh in 1905 and organized the “Jungle Satyagraha” among tribals in 1916-17. He also led the Kandel Nahar Satyagraha and accompanied Mahatma Gandhi during his visit to Chhatisgarh from Calcutta.
Imprisonment and Activism:
- Sunder Lal Sharma was imprisoned multiple times for his activism, including charges of sedition in 1920, and during the Nagpur Flag Satyagraha in 1930 and 1932.
