Balraj Sahni was one of the most distinguished actors of Indian cinema, known for his natural, understated, and deeply humanistic acting style. Emerging as a powerful performer in both Hindi films and theatre, he earned immense respect for his socially conscious roles and realistic portrayals.
He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1969 for his contribution to Indian arts and cinema. Balraj Sahni was also the elder brother of renowned writer Bhisham Sahni, adding to the family’s literary and artistic legacy.
Commemoration
A commemorative postage stamp was issued on Balraj Sahni as part of the ‘100 Years of Indian Cinema’ series, celebrating his legacy as one of Hindi cinema’s most influential and refined actors.
