The 27th Annual Conference of the Pacific Area Travel Association (PATA) is scheduled to take place in New Delhi from January 23 to 26, 1978. Preceding the conference, there will be a two-day workshop in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

PATA was established in Hawaii in 1951 as a non-profit corporation with the aim of promoting interest in the Pacific and adjacent regions as tourist destinations. Its objectives include developing, promoting, and facilitating travel to and among the various destinations in the Pacific area. Comprising tourism professionals and experts, PATA boasts a membership of over 1,500, including 33 governments, major international airlines, prominent tour operators, travel agents, hotel chains, newspapers, and travel magazines.

India, initially an associate member since 1957, became a full-fledged active member of PATA in 1964. In 1966, India had the honor of hosting PATA’s 15th Annual Conference. To commemorate the upcoming 27th Conference of the Pacific Area Travel Association, the Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department plans to issue a special postage stamp, acknowledging the significance of this event in the tourism sector.
