Adventure Sports: A Growing Phenomenon

Adventure sports have gained immense popularity across the globe in recent years. These activities, which involve substantial elements of adventure and a touch of competition, qualify as adventure sports. While the possibilities are vast, we have chosen to highlight four of the more established sports.

Wind Surfing

Wind Surfing, also known as ‘Sailboarding’ in some countries, is a water sport that combines the principles of sailing and surfing. It is performed on a fiberglass board that is conical on both sides. The modern form of this sport originated in California in the late 1960s.

Introduction to India:

Wind Surfing made its way to India in the early 1980s and has since become very popular in the coastal regions of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Goa. The sport involves riding on a board powered by a sail, utilizing the wind to glide across the water.

Popularity and Competitions:

The sport’s rise in popularity in India has led to the organization of national competitions. These events attract enthusiasts and athletes from various parts of the country, contributing to the sport’s growth and development.

The set of stamps and the First Day Cover for Wind Surfing have been designed by R.N. Pasricha. The cancellation design has been crafted by Alka Sharma.
