Aero India – Showcasing India’s Aviation Excellence
Since its inception in 1996, Aero India has evolved into Asia’s premier aerospace and defence exhibition and an important fixture on the global aviation calendar. Organized under the aegis of the Department of Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence, it provides a platform for the aviation industry to showcase its latest products, services, and technologies.
Aligned with the “Make in India” initiative envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the show has successfully attracted domestic and foreign investments, highlighting India’s growing self-reliance in aerospace manufacturing and technology development.
The Spirit of Indian Pilots
Indian pilots—military and commercial—embody courage, skill, and dedication. They are the guardians of the skies, ensuring national security and connecting millions through the airways. India is proud to have one of the highest proportions of women commercial pilots in the world—12% of all pilots— compared to the global average of less than 5%.
In both the civil and defence sectors, pilots have demonstrated excellence, flying complex missions, testing indigenous aircraft, and representing the indomitable spirit of New India. Their professionalism and pioneering spirit inspire generations to dream of flight and adventure.
Commercial Aircraft – Connecting the Nation and the World
India’s commercial aviation sector has emerged as one of the fastest growing in the world. With passenger traffic projected to reach 350 million, India is on course to become the third-largest aviation market globally.
Commercial aircraft not only symbolize progress and connectivity but also stand as a testament to India’s engineering, operational, and management capabilities. Airlines and pilots together form the lifeline of a modern, mobile nation—linking distant corners of India and bridging it with the world.
Light Combat Helicopters – The Power of Indigenous Defence
India’s quest for self-reliance in defence production has reached new heights with the development of Light Combat Helicopters (LCH)—indigenously designed and manufactured for the Indian Armed Forces. These multi-role helicopters, capable of operating in extreme altitudes and varied terrains, strengthen India’s tactical and strategic capabilities.
With their advanced avionics, agility, and firepower, the LCHs complement India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas in safeguarding the nation’s airspace and borders. Together, they showcase India’s growing expertise in aerospace engineering and defence innovation.
A Tribute to the Nation’s Aviators
Aero India 2019, themed “The Runway to a Billion Opportunities”, encapsulated India’s emergence as a global hub for aerospace innovation and investment. The logo inspired by the Tejas LCA and the focus on “Women in Aviation” reflected the inclusive and progressive spirit of the sector.
The Commemorative Postage Stamps on Pilots, Commercial Aircraft and Light Combat Helicopters pay tribute to India’s aviation heroes—those who fly, design, and build the nation’s wings of progress. They represent courage, innovation, and the limitless possibilities that define India’s journey in the skies.
