He received the National Film Award for Best Cinematography twice — for 36 Chowringhee Lane (1981) and Moksha (2000). His work in Bandit Queen (1997) earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Cinematographer, further cementing his legacy as one of India’s finest visual craftsmen.
