C. V. Sridhar was one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated screenwriters and directors, known for his memorable contributions to Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu films. His mastery in crafting emotionally rich stories, nuanced characters, and melodious romances made him a defining filmmaker of his era.
He first gained widespread acclaim with Kalyana Parisu (1959), which earned the Certificate of Merit for Best Feature Film in Tamil. His landmark film Nenjil Oru Aalayam (1962) won the President’s Silver Medal for Best Feature Film in Tamil, further cementing his reputation as a storyteller of great sensitivity.
Sridhar also made a strong mark in Hindi cinema. His film Nazrana (1961) earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Story, showcasing his ability to connect with audiences across languages. Over his career, he received numerous honours, including the prestigious Kalaimamani Award from the State Sangeeth Natak Academy.
Commemoration
A commemorative postage stamp was issued on C. V. Sridhar as part of the ‘100 Years of Indian Cinema’ series, celebrating his rich legacy as an acclaimed writer–director whose films continue to be treasured across generations.
