Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) was founded on 13 March 1922 with the object of providing training to boys of India domicile wishing to become officers in the Armed Forces. The genesis of the institution lay in the fact that a concerted push for the Indianisation of Military Leadership of the Armed Forces of Indian came from the incumbent political establishment.

RIMC is an Inter Service Category ‘A’ establishment administered through the Army Training Command, Shimla. It is a feeder institution to the National Defence Academy and the Naval Academy while also enabling cadets to join the Defence Services through any other entry scheme. The college has an all India footprint with select eligible cadets being drawn from all corners of country which translates into representation of each State of the nation and most Union Territories. The RIMC lends itself to train, educate and motivate cadets to ensure a career in the military is their natural preferred calling. Every activity in the college is objective-based, well thought out and precisely timed to mould future leaders.

RIMC’s crowning glory remains that it has given four Chiefs of Army Staff and two Chiefs of the Air staff to India and two Chiefs of the Air staff and a Commander-in-Chief of Army in Pakistan. As on March 2021, a total of 4274 students have joined RIMC of which more than 2600 are proudly serving in the Armed Forces of the nation. This diverse and eclectic sprinkling of Rimcollians across both sides of the border has contributed to their respective nation building as well as friendly overtures on accasions.

The college has dedicated its existence to producing leaders of mettle & resolve and they have gone on to shape the fledgling native military leadership in the nation- a leadership that has shaped the Indian Armed Forces that steered the nation to decisive to hard fought victory in wars and numerous operations. The institution’s contribution to the military leadership has in its own way contributed to the cause of nation building.
