India–Israel Joint Stamp: Celebrating Holi
The bonds between India and Israel have evolved significantly since the formal establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. Over the decades, the partnership has grown from strength to strength, with milestones such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Israel in 2017 and the reciprocal visit of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to India in 2018.
Today, the two nations collaborate across diverse fields — defence, technology, agriculture, water management, and innovation — forging a partnership that is as dynamic as it is enduring.
Holi and Purim – A Shared Message
In India, the festival of Holi conveys a strikingly similar message. Holi celebrates the survival of Prahlada, a devout follower of God, against the cruel plot of his father Hiranyakashipu and his sister Holika, who attempted to destroy him for his faith. Like Purim, Holi affirms that truth, devotion, and righteousness ultimately triumph over malice.
It is this parallel that inspired the India–Israel Joint Postage Stamp on Holi and Purim. Both festivals, though rooted in different traditions, symbolize resilience, faith, and the eternal triumph of light over darkness.
commemorative Stamp
For philatelists, this commemorative stamp release is not just about the festivals it depicts, but also about the larger story of cultural harmony and the shared human values that bind nations together.
