India–Israel Joint Stamp: Celebrating Purim
The bonds between India and Israel have evolved significantly since the formal establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. Over the decades, the partnership has grown from strength to strength, with milestones such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Israel in 2017 and the reciprocal visit of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to India in 2018.
Today, the two nations collaborate across diverse fields — defence, technology, agriculture, water management, and innovation — forging a partnership that is as dynamic as it is enduring.
The Purim Festival – A Story of Faith and Survival
Among the many cultural parallels, the Jewish festival of Purim stands out as a celebration of resilience and faith.
Purim commemorates the miraculous survival of the Jewish people during the Persian Empire. As told in the Book of Esther, Queen Esther courageously thwarted the evil plot of Haman, chief minister to King Ahaseurus, who sought to annihilate the Jewish community. Through her bravery and devotion, Esther safeguarded her people, turning a moment of despair into one of triumph and joy.
Purim is celebrated with joy, feasting, costumes, and the reading of the Megillah (Scroll of Esther). It embodies the victory of good over evil, a theme that resonates deeply across cultures.
