Majrooh Sultanpuri, born Asrar ul Hassan Khan, hailed from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Initially trained in Unani medicine, he eventually gravitated toward Urdu poetry, becoming one of the most celebrated progressive poets of his generation.

Majrooh Sultanpuri emerged as a legendary lyricist and songwriter in the Bollywood film industry.
His poetic brilliance, command over Urdu, and ability to express deep emotions made him a favourite among composers and filmmakers.
He gained widespread recognition with the film Dosti (1964), for which he won the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award in 1965. Over several decades, his lyrics enriched countless films, making him one of the most influential figures in Hindi film music.
