Early Life and Education

Shrilal Shukla was born in 1925 in Atrauli village of Lucknow district, Uttar Pradesh. Growing up in a rural environment deeply shaped his future literary vision and provided him a firsthand understanding of village life in India.

Shukla joined the Provincial Civil Services and later became an officer in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). His long administrative career offered him valuable insights into the functioning of bureaucracy and rural politics, which he portrayed vividly in his writings.
