Centenary of Indian Railways 1853-1953

The stamps contained within this folder serve as a tribute to a century of progress of the Indian Railways. Printed using photogravure on watermark paper adorned with a five-pointed star pattern, these stamps boast a horizontal design, measuring 1.6″ x 0.95″ with a perforation of 14: Set 200.

This stamp series represents the second installment in a series of India Postage commemorating significant milestones, with the first being the Geological Centenary issue introduced in 1951. Notably, numerous other countries worldwide have also issued special postage stamps featuring railroads as their central theme, reflecting the global significance and impact of railway systems on human civilization.
