Yash Raj Chopra was one of the most influential and visionary filmmakers in the history of Indian cinema. Renowned as the King of Romance, he crafted some of Bollywood’s most memorable films, leaving an indelible mark on filmmaking, storytelling, and film aesthetics.
He produced and directed landmark movies such as Waqt, Deewar, Kabhi Kabhie, Silsila, Chandni, Lamhe, Darr, Dil To Pagal Hai, and Veer-Zaara, many of which are considered classics of Hindi cinema. As the founding chairman of Yash Raj Films (YRF), he built one of India’s most successful film production and distribution empires.
Yash Chopra received 11 Filmfare Awards in the categories of Best Director and Best Film, along with 6 National Film Awards. He was honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards from several prestigious bodies, including the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) in Malaysia. In recognition of his monumental contribution to Indian cinema, he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2005.
