Early Life and Spiritual Heritage

Amarendranath Chakravarty, popularly known as Sri Sri Borda, was born on 21st November 1911 at Himayetpur in Pabna district of the Bengal province (now in Bangladesh). He was the son of Anukulchandra and Smt. Jagat-Janani Sree Sree Shorashibala Devi.

His father, Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra, was revered by followers, devotees, and disciples as a prophet, philosopher, and guide. Around him evolved a spiritual and social association that rose above provincialism, communalism, and parochialism, fostering a sense of universal brotherhood and peaceful co-existence. This association came to be known as Satsang—a community rooted in the belief that there is only one God and that every human being is His child.

Growing up in this spiritually charged environment, young Amarendranath Chakravarty inherited the noble ideals and mission of his father.

Leadership of the Satsang Movement

After the physical departure of Sri Sri Thakur, Sri Sri Borda assumed responsibility for guiding the Satsang movement. With ascetic discipline and a deeply practical outlook on life, he ensured that the void created by his father’s absence was meaningfully filled.

Under his leadership, thousands of Satsang Centres were established across India and abroad. These centres worked toward improving socio-economic and cultural conditions of communities. He mobilized resources for educational development, medical treatment for the sick, agricultural advancement, rural road construction, and tree plantation initiatives.

Social Welfare and Humanitarian Work

Sri Sri Borda’s service extended beyond spiritual guidance into active humanitarian efforts. He organized a volunteer force called Swasti Sevak Vahini, enlisting youth and training them to maintain social peace, harmony, and provide essential services to society.

He initiated de-addiction centres to rehabilitate those suffering from substance abuse, where thousands received treatment. The Ashram Hospital provided free medical care to the needy and destitute. Artificial limbs were distributed free of cost to the physically challenged. Through the community kitchen, thousands were fed regularly.

He was known for his compassionate disposition—consoling the aggrieved, uplifting the fallen, encouraging the discouraged, and guiding the distressed toward hope and stability. Without seeking fame or material gain, he dedicated his life entirely to the service of humanity.

Global Expansion and Enduring Legacy

Sri Sri Borda established more than five thousand Satsang Centres in India and overseas for the holistic welfare of humanity. Over twenty thousand preaching-workers were activated under his guidance to assist and support millions of followers worldwide.

He passed away on 5th August 1994, leaving behind a well-organized and spiritually vibrant Satsang community enriched by his wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to service.

Commemorative Postage Stamp

To honor his immense spiritual and social contributions, a commemorative postage stamp was issued on the Birth Centenary of Sri Sri Borda Amarendranath Chakravarty. The stamp pays tribute to his life of selfless service, humanitarian vision, and dedication to the upliftment of humanity, preserving his legacy for future generations.
