“The Heart of a Child”
India Post proudly presents a special set of postage stamps on Children’s Day celebrating “The Heart of a Child.” Through evocative artwork created by young students, the issue reflects children’s dreams, compassion, and deep concern for society and the environment.
The Stamp Designs
The set of two stamps portrays the tiger and the deer in their natural habitat, conveying an urgent message about prioritising the protection of endangered species and preserving ecological balance. The imagery symbolizes harmony in nature and reminds us that wildlife conservation is inseparable from humanity’s future.
The First Day Cover – A Montage of Hope
The First Day Cover features a montage of paintings expressing the social awareness and empathy of children:
- One painting shows a child exhausted from labour beyond his strength and age, sheltered between nurturing hands that hold his dreams — companionship, education, and empowerment.
- Beneath it, a glowing night scene depicts a young boy teaching adults to read, write, and learn computer skills, symbolizing the transformative power of knowledge.
- Another artwork portrays children caring for the elderly and the physically challenged, emphasizing that senior citizens seek not charity, but love and inclusion in the mainstream of life.
- Yet another image captures a child’s deep concern for the environment, reflecting awareness of pollution and humanity’s responsibility toward nature.
The Brochure Artwork – A Shared World
The brochure features a serene scene of a herd of spotted deer and an elephant with its young, bringing the children’s concerns full circle — from human dignity and education to environmental stewardship and wildlife protection.
Each child’s artwork seems to declare:
“This is my world. I belong to it as much as it belongs to me. The life of every creature on it is intertwined with mine. To make this a better place for all of us is my dream.”
