Children’s Day in India, celebrated on November 14th, coincides with the birthday of the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, affectionately known as ‘Chacha Nehru’ or Uncle Nehru by children across the country. This year, the theme for the celebrations is “Young Human Resources – the Key to National Development.” It underscores the importance of investing in the future generation, as they are the ones who will lead the nation tomorrow.

While a country’s wealth can be measured in various ways, such as industrial output and export earnings, the true wealth lies in its future human resources – the children. They are the ones who will shape the destiny of the nation and guide its progress. Therefore, the task of developing and nurturing children for their future roles is of utmost importance.

The Indian Posts and Telegraphs (P&T) Department has been actively involved in celebrating Children’s Day since 1957. Once again, the department is privileged to issue a special commemorative stamp to highlight the significance of this national resource – the young generation. The stamp features a Nehru Gold Medal-winning entry by Miss Geeta Gupta from a recent “on the spot” painting competition sponsored by Shankar’s Weekly.

Additionally, the design on the First Day Cover, issued on this occasion, is based on a prize-winning entry submitted by Miss Vidooshi Sharma in the Shankar’s International Children’s Competition held in 1969. These initiatives aim to draw attention to the creativity and potential of children and emphasize the importance of investing in their development.
