Under the auspices of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, a week-long World Telugu Conference is being held in Hyderabad from April 12 to 18, 1975. This conference aims to highlight the significance of Telugu as one of the most widely spoken languages in India and to unite Telugu-speaking individuals and enthusiasts from around the globe to exchange views and share their rich cultural heritage. Scholars of Telugu from both India and other countries will attend as delegates. The Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department is pleased to issue a commemorative postage stamp to mark this occasion.
The stamp features a photograph of a 12th-century image of Saraswati, the deity of language and learning. This sculpture, from the Chauhan era, was acquired by the National Museum, Delhi, from Bikaner. The background of the stamp includes excerpts from the works of renowned Telugu poets and scholars, praising the greatness of the Telugu language. The inscription concludes with a eulogy, stating that in sweetness, Telugu surpasses even sugar, jackfruit, and pure honey.
