Rajasthan:
Rajasthan’s brides are characterized by a blaze of color and strong forms. The bride wears beaten silver haslis around her throat, complemented by heavy silver chains and pendant rings. Her tie-dye odani in red, turmeric-yellow, and gleaming gota circles her head. The nath (nose ring) curves from nose to ear, enhancing the cheek’s curve and is echoed by the looped chain suspending her bor (forehead ornament). Cones of pendant silver drop from her ears, balancing her straight glance, bindu (forehead mark), and rounded chin. This visual drama is detailed with centuries-old courtly traditions, reminiscent of Mewari Rajput paintings.
The Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department proudly commemorates these traditional bridal styles by issuing a set of four stamps on Brides of India, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and artistry of Indian bridal adornments.
