Among such elite forces, the 11 Gorkha Rifles stands out as a symbol of bravery, discipline, and selfless service.

Formation of 11 Gorkha Rifles

The 11 Gorkha Rifles is unique as the first infantry and only Gorkha regiment raised after India’s independence. It was established on 1 January 1948 with two battalions.

Over the years, the regiment expanded into a strong force comprising:

  • One Territorial Army battalion

This growth reflects its increasing importance and contribution to national security.

The 11 Gorkha Rifles has actively participated in several key military operations, consistently demonstrating courage and professionalism.

Early Operations and Hyderabad Action
