His poetry reflected a blend of deep Indian cultural sensibilities and Western literary influence. Through his rich literary output, he left a lasting impact on Hindi poetry and prose.
Early Life and Education
Harivansh Rai Bachchan was born on 27 November 1907 in Allahabad (now Prayagraj). Growing up in a city where the sacred rivers Ganges and Yamuna meet, his literary sensibilities developed through a blend of Indian traditions and the study of English literature.
He pursued higher studies at the University of Allahabad, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree and began a Master’s in English Literature. However, in 1930, he left the university to participate in the Civil Disobedience Movement.
Early Literary Success
Bachchan gained instant fame with his first collection of Hindi verse, Madhushala, which he wrote during his college years.
