Chand Baori is one of the most spectacular and largest stepwells in India, located in the village of Abhaneri in the state of Rajasthan. Historical Background

Chand Baori is believed to have been constructed between AD 800 and 900, making it one of the earliest and most enduring examples of stepwell engineering in the Indian subcontinent. The stepwell reflects the ingenuity required to manage water resources in the arid climate of Rajasthan.

Architectural Features

The stepwell is an enormous structure consisting of approximately 3,500 narrow steps arranged over 13 storeys, creating a dramatic geometric pattern. Surrounding the stepwell are balconies and pavilion-like structures, enhancing both its visual appeal and functional use. The presence of temple remnants around the stepwell points to its religious and cultural significance.
