Two Centuries of Faith and Heritage
Location and Religious Significance
The Godiji Temple is situated in the Payadhuni (Pydhonie) area of Mumbai and is one of the most revered Jain temples in the city. The name Godiji is among the 1008 sacred names of Bhagavan Parshvanath, the 23rd Tirthankar of the Jain religion, to whom the temple is dedicated.
Historical Background
The temple was originally established in Vikram Samvat 1868 (1812 A.D.), making it one of the oldest Jain temples in Mumbai. In 2012, the temple proudly celebrated 200 years of its inception, marking two centuries of uninterrupted spiritual and religious service to the Jain community.
Architecture and Renovation
Initially constructed using wood, the temple has undergone extensive renovations over time and is now beautifully rebuilt in marble. Architecturally impressive, the temple features:
- 226 visible pillars
- 16 chambers of worship
- 155 idols made of precious metals
- 83 marble idols
A remarkable architectural highlight is the circular central dome, which stands tall without any visible support, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.
Sacred Idol of Bhagavan Parshvanath

- Handwritten manuscripts
