Shortly after the introduction of BB&CI Railway in Baroda State, Maharaja Khanderao took the lead and built narrow gauge railway line of 2’6” from Dabhoi towards Miyagam in February 1862. It was the first such attempt by a native ruler anywhere in British dominions. Oxen were used as the motive power. It was also known as Bullock Tram. In 1873 the line was re-laid with stronger rails to allow locomotives to be used although locomotives were not used regularly on this intil 1880. This later became part of the Gaekwad’s Baroda State Railway.
Dabhoi – Miyagam railway line is the world’s oldest continuously working narrow gauge line. With the gauge conversion this narrow gauge line will be closed permanently in near future.
