INPEX-82: Celebrating Philately and Stamp Collecting
Philately, the study of postage stamps and postal history, holds a special place in the hearts of collectors worldwide. Recognizing the importance of promoting this hobby, the Indian Posts & Telegraphs Department has been at the forefront of organizing exhibitions to showcase philatelic material and foster a sense of community among collectors.
Legacy of Philatelic Exhibitions
Since India’s Independence, the P&T Department has spearheaded numerous philatelic exhibitions, both at the national and international levels. These exhibitions serve as platforms for collectors to showcase their collections, share their research findings, and learn from fellow enthusiasts. Notable exhibitions include the first International Stamp Exhibition in 1954, INDIPEX 73, and INDIA 80, the first international exhibition under the Federation Internationale de Philatelie.
INPEX-82: A Landmark Exhibition
INPEX-82 marks the fourth India National Exhibition, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from December 30, 1982, to January 5, 1983. Organized in collaboration with the Philatelic Congress of India, this exhibition promises to be an ambitious venture, showcasing the passion and dedication of collectors from across the country. The venue, the prestigious Indraprastha Stadium, adds grandeur to the event, being among the world’s top covered stadia.
Record-Breaking Participation
The response to INPEX-82 has been overwhelming, with 409 collectors slated to display their exhibits across 1500 frames. This makes it the largest-ever national exhibition in terms of participation and display. Such enthusiastic participation underscores the growing interest and recognition of Indian collectors in the international philatelic community.
Commemorative Stamps
To commemorate this landmark event, the Indian Posts & Telegraphs Department is privileged to issue a set of two stamps, further highlighting the significance of philately and stamp collecting in India.
Conclusion
INPEX-82 stands as a testament to India’s vibrant philatelic movement and the passion of collectors nationwide. Through exhibitions like these, the P&T Department continues to nurture and promote the rich heritage of stamp collecting, fostering connections among collectors and enthusiasts alike.
