Early Life and Education

Frank Anthony hailed from Jabalpur. A brilliant student, he pursued his education at Nagpur University before going to the United Kingdom for higher studies. There, he qualified as a barrister from the prestigious Inner Temple. On returning to India, he began practising law in Nagpur, quickly establishing himself as a leading legal expert in the Central Provinces.

Political Career

Frank Anthony entered public life in 1942 as a member of the Central Legislative Assembly. In 1946, he became a member of the Constituent Assembly and later joined the provincial Parliament in 1950.

From the first Lok Sabha in 1952, he served as a Nominated Member representing the Anglo-Indian community, continuing almost uninterrupted until his death in 1993. He was also a member of the National Defence Council from 1964 and the National Integration Council since its inception in 1961.

Contribution to Education

Education, especially school education, was one of Frank Anthony’s greatest passions. As the Chairman of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, he made a lasting impact on the quality and standards of education in India.

He also founded several prestigious educational institutions, including schools in:

  • Delhi
  • Kolkata
  • Bengaluru

These institutions continue to contribute significantly to education in the country.

Social Contributions

Frank Anthony worked tirelessly for the welfare and upliftment of the Anglo-Indian community. His efforts ensured that their rights, identity and educational needs were recognised and protected in independent India.
