215 Years of the Remount Veterinary Corps
Overview:
This year marks the 215th anniversary of the Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC), one of the oldest and most esteemed services within the Indian Armed Forces.
History and Evolution:
- Inception: The Corps began in 1779 as the ‘Stud Department,’ focusing on the management and care of military horses.
 - Organizational Changes:
 - 1826: Formation of the Army Veterinary Department.
 - 1876: Establishment of the Horse Breeding Department.
 - 1920: Formation of the Indian Army Veterinary Corps, with two Army Veterinary Schools set up.
 - Post-Independence: After the partition in 1947, the Corps adapted to significant changes, including:
 - Shift of Mil. Vet. Laboratory: Moved from Lahore to Lucknow.
 - Formation of Indian Remount Veterinary Corps (IRVC): Amalgamation of the Remount & Veterinary departments.
 - Relocation of RVG Centre & School: Moved to Meerut for continued training and development.
 
Service and Contributions:
- World Wars: Actively participated in both World Wars.
 - Post-Independence Operations: Involved in key operations including:
 - J&K Operations (1947-48)
 - NEFA 1962
 - Indo-Pak Wars (1965, 1971)
