The Sixth International Film Festival of India, organized by the Directorate of Film Festivals in cooperation with the Indian Film Industry, will take place in New Delhi from January 3 to 16, 1977. This festival follows a legacy that began with the First International Film Festival of India in 1952, with subsequent editions in 1961, 1965 (the first competitive one), 1969, and 1974-1975.
The International Film Festival of India, featuring the prestigious Peacock Award, is one of the world’s seven major international film festivals, recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers’ Association (FIAFP) in Paris. Its motto, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” reflects its aim to unite the global community through the art of cinema.
The festival serves several purposes: providing a platform for filmmakers worldwide to showcase their cinematic excellence, fostering an understanding and appreciation of diverse film cultures, and promoting friendship and cooperation among nations.
The 14-day event comprises three sections: Competition, Information, and Market. The Competition section will screen 24 feature films and 24 short films, with an International Jury selecting winners for the Peacock Awards. Films in the Information section will be shown in commercial theaters across Delhi.
To commemorate this significant occasion, the Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department is issuing a postage stamp, celebrating the artistry and camaraderie of the International Film Festival of India.
