Commemorating 75 Years of the Mahindra Group: A Tribute Through a Stamp
From its humble beginnings in 1945 as a steel trading firm, the Mahindra Group has grown into one of India’s most admired multinational conglomerates, with over 260,000 employees across more than 100 countries. Today, it leads in sectors such as farm equipment, utility vehicles, information technology, and financial services, and proudly holds the title of the world’s largest tractor company by volume. Beyond these, the Group has a strong presence in renewable energy, agriculture, logistics, hospitality, and real estate. Guided by its purpose – Rise – Mahindra focuses on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles, driving rural prosperity, enhancing urban living, and creating positive change for communities and stakeholders.
A Legacy Built on Values
When the founders of the Mahindra Group placed a newspaper advertisement in 1945, it was not merely to announce a business venture but to express a commitment to the community. The ad emphasized creating a diverse and enjoyable work environment, doing good while growing, and contributing positively to society. This ethos has remained in the Group’s DNA ever since.
ESG acts as a key enabler, helping the Group measure, manage, and amplify its social impact. The philosophy is simple: the more economic value the Group creates, the more social value it can generate. From manufacturing the iconic Willys Jeeps in the 1940s for India’s rural terrain to launching a tractor division aligned with agrarian needs, and pioneering IT solutions that positioned India on the global technology map, the Mahindra Group has consistently combined business success with nation-building.
Driving Social Good and Community Impact
The Group’s purpose-driven approach extends to its various CSR initiatives. Its flagship program, Nanhi Kali, empowers girl children with education, adaptive learning tools, school supplies, and hygiene materials, impacting over 470,000 girls across India. Similarly, Mahindra Pride School focuses on skill development, vocational training, and women empowerment, benefiting over 500,000 youth and women farmers.
Environmental sustainability is another cornerstone of the Group’s vision. Through Mahindra Hariyali, the tree plantation program, over 19 million trees have been planted, improving biodiversity and providing livelihoods for more than 25,000 tribal families in Andhra Pradesh’s Araku Valley. The project’s innovative model ensures tribal farmers nurture the trees, achieving a survival rate of over 93%.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mahindra Group extended support through PPE production, food distribution, oxygen supply, and essential relief initiatives, demonstrating its commitment to societal well-being.
Celebrating 75 Years with a Commemorative Stamp
Marking 75 years of remarkable growth, service, and societal contribution, the Department of Posts has issued a commemorative postage stamp celebrating the Mahindra Group. Inspired by miniature art and modern graphical styles, the stamp reflects the Group’s diverse journey, business achievements, and social initiatives. Every element of the design highlights how the Group has touched lives and helped communities Rise.
This stamp is more than a tribute it is a celebration of the Mahindra Group’s enduring values, its innovative spirit, and its dedication to creating a better future for India and the world.
