Stamp Design & Photography Competitions by the Department of Posts
Nationwide Creative Initiatives Since 2015
Since 2015, the Department of Posts has been conducting national-level Stamp Design Competitions on themes such as Republic Day, Independence Day and Children’s Day. Winning entries have served as inspiration for postage stamps, with the top three participants awarded cash prizes for their creative contributions.
A Novel Initiative: Photography Competition 2017
In a fresh and innovative move, the Department of Posts organized a nationwide Photography Competition on the theme “Beautiful India” to mark Independence Day 2017. The best entries received were used to design Postage Stamps, First Day Cover (FDC) and a Brochure.
Award Winners & Contributions
The top three winners of the Photography Competition were:
- Shri K. Narayanaswamy – First Prize
- Mr. Pulkit Tyagi – Second Prize
- Shri Mihir Singh – Third Prize
In addition to the winning entries, photographs submitted by Ms. Surya R. G. and Smt. Chamah Sharma were also selected for designing the Stamp, FDC and Brochure, showcasing exceptional talent from across the nation.

The selected photographs beautifully capture the natural charm and visual splendour of India:
- A scenic road flanked by yellow-flower laden trees, with schoolgirls walking gracefully, paints a heart-warming everyday Indian moment.
- The majestic hills of Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh, stand in serene grandeur.
- A refreshing perspective of the Taj Mahal, photographed from the lush garden, adds a new visual dimension to the iconic monument.
- The tranquil beauty of Saryulsar Lake, Kullu enchants with its calm waters and surroundings.
- A picturesque pond encircled with hyacinth, dotted with countless small water birds, creates a captivating natural frame.
