Celebrating 75 Years of Excellence in Telecom Education
A Legacy of Learning and Innovation
The Bharat Ratna Bhimrao Ambedkar Institute of Telecom Training (BRBRAITT), Jabalpur, stands as one of Asia’s premier institutes for telecom education and training. Originally established in 1920 as the Telecom Training Centre at Calcutta, the institute was relocated to Jabalpur during the Second World War and began functioning there from April 22, 1942. In recognition of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s immense contribution to the nation, the institute was renamed in his honour on May 30, 1992.
A Centre of Excellence
For over seven decades, BRBRAITT has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s telecom leadership. All senior officers of BSNL and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) have received their foundational training at this institute. Accredited with ISO 9001:2008, BRBRAITT continues to uphold global standards of professional education and technical training.
World-Class Infrastructure
Spread across 35 acres, the BRBRAITT campus houses a modern administrative complex covering 17,280 square metres, 236 staff quarters, and four hostels accommodating nearly 400 trainees.
The institute features state-of-the-art laboratories and high-tech classrooms equipped with advanced multimedia facilities. Key laboratories include:
- Computers and Data Communication Labs
 - Mobile Communication Labs
 - New Technology Switching Labs
 - Optical Fibre Cable Labs
 - Satellite and Transmission Labs

These facilities provide participants with hands-on experience in cutting-edge telecom technologies.
The Knowledge Hub
The BRBRAITT Library serves as a vast repository of knowledge, with a rich collection of books, journals, magazines, and departmental publications. It also maintains an audio-visual section for trainees and staff, offering access to educational video and audio resources in both technical and management domains.
Expert Faculty and Global Outreach
The institute’s greatest strength lies in its highly skilled and experienced faculty, comprising experts in areas such as Wireless Communication, Data Networking, Programming, Transmission Technologies, and Administration. With this intellectual capital and modern infrastructure, BRBRAITT has become a trusted training destination not only for Indian organisations but also for international telecom personnel.
Trainees from Bhutan Telecom, Sri Lanka Telecom, and APT (Asia-Pacific Telecommunity) countries, as well as participants from the Commonwealth Telecom Organisation (CTO), London, have been trained at BRBRAITT.
Skill Development and Collaboration
In addition to BSNL and DoT officials, BRBRAITT conducts specialized programs for organisations such as Indian Railways, Defence Services, MP Electricity Board, Infosys, IIITDM Jabalpur, and IIIT Allahabad.
The institute has also opened its doors to college students for vocational training, summer internships, and live projects, fostering practical exposure to emerging telecom technologies.
As the Nodal Centre for Skill Development under BSNL, BRBRAITT is contributing significantly to India’s youth empowerment initiatives by equipping young professionals with industry-relevant skills.
A Tribute to 75 Glorious Years
With 75 years of dedicated service, BRBRAITT continues to stand at the forefront of telecom training and innovation, blending tradition with technology. Its journey reflects a commitment to knowledge, excellence, and national growth.
Commemorative Postage Stamp
To honour its 75 years of outstanding service, the Department of Posts has issued a Commemorative Postage Stamp on the Bharat Ratna Bhimrao Ambedkar Institute of Telecom Training (BRBRAITT), Jabalpur — celebrating its vital role in nation-building and technological progress.
