Sri Sathya Sai Baba was born on 23 November 1926 in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh. At the young age of fourteen, he began his divine mission to promote the eternal human values of truth, righteous conduct, peace, love, and non-violence, while emphasizing the unity of all religions. His life of compassion and selfless service inspired the establishment of numerous institutions dedicated to education, healthcare, and rural development, benefiting millions of people across the world.
Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust and Healthcare Services
The Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust (SSSCT) continues to uphold his vision by offering free healthcare, education, and social welfare services without any discrimination. Recognised by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) with Special Consultative Status, the Trust operates two super-speciality hospitals, two general hospitals, and two mobile hospitals. These facilities treat nearly 3,000 outpatients daily, completely free of cost. NITI Aayog has highlighted these hospitals as exemplary not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare models devoted to the principle of “service to society as service to God”.
Education and Value-Based Learning
In the field of education, the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning offers free undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, blending academic excellence with character building. More than 5,000 students study in these institutions and receive quality education at no cost. Additionally, about 102 Sri Sathya Sai Schools function under the aegis of the Sathya Sai Seva Organisation (SSSSO), providing free education to nearly 60,000 children. Financial assistance is also provided to improve infrastructure, including buildings, furniture, and computer facilities, to ensure quality education reaches the grassroots.
Rural Upliftment and Water Projects
Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s vision of rural upliftment led to major drinking water projects that supply safe water to over 1,600 villages and nearly three million people across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. These initiatives have transformed the lives of countless rural communities by ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water.
Energy, Relief, and Humanitarian Initiatives
The Trust’s Sai Mitra Solar Energy Project generates 6.1 megawatts of clean energy, reflecting its commitment to sustainable development. It also provides disaster relief, constructs houses for affected families, and feeds nearly one lakh people every day, embodying Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s message of love in action.
Bal Vikas Programme
To instil human values in young minds, the “Bal Vikas” programme educates over 4,00,000 children through the dedicated efforts of nearly 20,000 voluntary teachers. The programme plays a vital role in nurturing character, discipline, and moral strength among the youth.
Commemorative Postage Stamp
To honour this immense legacy of service and spiritual guidance, the Department of Posts is releasing a commemorative postage stamp on the occasion of the Birth Centenary of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The stamp pays tribute to his life, teachings, and enduring impact on humanity through selfless service, universal love, and the promotion of human values.
