Bengal:
In tropical Bengal, the bridal crest is a finely fretted tiara, similar to those used in Durga puja pratimas. The bride wears a traditionally Banarasi brocaded sari. The bridal adornment features graceful loops and arabesques from the tiara through chains and pendants at the hairline to delicate sandal-paste “creepers” emphasizing her brows, reminiscent of ritual alpana. Fresh jasmine and rose loops adorn her neck and wrists, with gold disks at her earlobes. The delicate, curvilinear style defines the Bengali bridal look.
The Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department proudly commemorates these traditional bridal styles by issuing a set of four stamps on Brides of India, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and artistry of Indian bridal adornments.
