Tamil Nadu:
Tamil brides exhibit classical vigor and tension. Their gold and gem-studded decorations create a rhythmic effect, particularly with the mango motif symbolizing fruitfulness, present in her Kanchipuram silk sari and necklet. Her long hair is adorned with gold thread and jasmine buds, echoed in the ornament binding her brows and defining her parting, which drops to a pendant. This symmetry is further highlighted by ear pendants, nose jewels, and the symbolic sun and moon ornaments in her hair parting. These elements recall the classicism of Bharatanatyam and the formal discipline of temple bronzes.
The Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department proudly commemorates these traditional bridal styles by issuing a set of four stamps on Brides of India, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and artistry of Indian bridal adornments.
