Celebrating Innocence, Imagination, and Creativity

Children are among God’s greatest gifts to humanity. Their innocence, purity of thought, and boundless enthusiasm bring joy and meaning to life. Through wide, wonder-filled eyes, children perceive the world with honesty and imagination, discovering magic in everyday moments. For a child, each day reveals a new secret and a new joy, eagerly embraced with curiosity and delight.

Children’s Day is celebrated every year on 14 November, marking the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, affectionately known as Chacha Nehru for his deep love and affection for children.

Children’s Day Stamp Design Tradition

To commemorate Children’s Day each year, the Department of Posts releases special postage stamps designed by children themselves. These stamps are selected through an All India Stamp Design Competition, which encourages young minds across the country to express their creativity through art.

The theme for this year’s competition was “The Magic of the Night”. The contest received an overwhelming response, with entries vividly reflecting the limitless imagination and fantasy that define a child’s perception of the night.

Award-Winning Young Artists

This year’s stamp designs are based on paintings by the following prize winners:

  • Kum. Swarali V. Bhakare, Class IV, Annasaheb Raje Bhosale Primary School, Satara, Maharashtra – First Prize, Group I
  • B. Karthick, Class VIII, T.E.L.C. Middle School, Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu – First Prize, Group II

The Miniature Sheet is based on a painting by Master Pradhan Karnik, Class IX, Kendriya Vidyalaya, NAL Campus, Jeevan Bhimanagar, Bangalore, Karnataka, who won the First Prize in Group III.

First Day Cover and Maxim Cards

The First Day Cover design is based on a painting by Raj Ballav Hazarika, Class XII, K.V. Narangi School, Assam APS, winner of the Second Prize in Group III.

The three Maxim Cards feature paintings by:

  • Master Sankar Dinesh Kamath, Class III, Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thirakkakara, Ernakulam, Kerala – Second Prize, Group I
  • Jyotirmay Biswas, Class VIII, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal – Second Prize, Group II
  • Riti Sodhi, Class XII, Delhi Public School, Ranipur, Haridwar, Uttarakhand – Third Prize, Group III

A Tribute to Childhood Innocence

These paintings beautifully reveal the inner workings of a child’s mind and the magical way in which children perceive the night—through wide-eyed innocence, wonder, and imagination. Each artwork captures a unique vision of the world, untouched by convention and full of creative freedom.

In celebration of the spirit of childhood, the Department of Posts is delighted to release this special Children’s Day philatelic set, comprising two postage stamps, a miniature sheet, a first day cover, and three maxim cards, all designed by children. This release stands as a heartfelt tribute to innocence, creativity, and the boundless imagination of young minds.
