Themes

The Indian Posts and Telegraph Department has been commemorating Children’s Day on November 14 each year since 1957 by issuing special postage stamps. This day is celebrated nationwide with great fervor and serves to draw attention to the issues surrounding child welfare, which holds a significant place in the country’s plans for economic and social development.

The postage stamps released annually on Children’s Day reflect the theme of each year’s celebrations, as determined by the Indian Council of Child Welfare. For the current year, the theme, as communicated by the International Union of Child Welfare in Geneva, is: “Social services for children, especially adequate protective work, safeguard the community from delinquency and maladjustment.”

The special stamp issued on November 14, 1961, aims to capture this theme. It portrays a boy engaged in vocational training at a leather institution in Bombay. Such vocational training programs for children are designed to equip them with the skills necessary to become productive and responsible citizens of the country.

The Indian Posts & Telegraphs Department is pleased to participate once again in these celebrations, which serve such a noble objective.
