Celebrating Children’s Day on November 14th, which coincides with the birthday of the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, has been a longstanding tradition in India. Fondly known as “Chacha Nehru,” Pandit Nehru showed immense interest in the welfare of children, endearing himself to them across the country.
The Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department has a tradition of commemorating Children’s Day by issuing special postage stamps. In 1971, 1973, and 1974, stamps featuring children’s paintings were released. Continuing this tradition, this year’s stamp design features a painting of a cow created by seven-year-old Sanjay Nathubhai Patel from Bombay.
By showcasing children’s artwork on postage stamps, the Department not only celebrates the creativity of young minds but also promotes their artistic talents. It serves as a fitting tribute to the spirit of Children’s Day and honors the legacy of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who held a special place in his heart for the children of India.
