Introduction

Through the wondrous eyes of a child, the world appears full of beauty and wonder. Everyday experiences such as the rhythm of day and night, the play of sound and light, and the colours of nature inspire a child’s imagination. While adults often view festivals with concerns and responsibilities, children experience them with pure excitement and happiness. Simple things such as a toy, a flower, or even a handful of sand can bring immense joy to a child.

Children and the Spirit of Festivals

The innocence and enthusiasm of children give festivals their true meaning. Their ability to find happiness in the simplest moments reminds society of the beauty and positivity present in everyday life. This joyful spirit was reflected in the many entries received by the India Post for the annual All India Stamp Design Competition for children, where the theme was “Festivals” or “Celebrations.”

The paintings submitted by children captured colourful scenes of festivities and revealed the creativity and optimism of the younger generation.

Winning Designs

The commemorative postage stamp for this year was based on a watercolour painting created by Kumari Pallavi Majumder of Bidya Bharati Girls’ High School in Kolkata, who won the first prize in the competition.

The First Day Cover design was based on a painting by Kumari Sughosh S. Neergundh of S. Cadambi Vidya Kendra in Bangalore, who secured the second prize.

Both artworks beautifully depict the joy and vibrant celebrations of festivals among ordinary people in rural and urban communities.

Celebrating Children’s Creativity

To celebrate the boundless imagination and happiness reflected in children’s artwork, India Post issued this special postage stamp on the occasion of Children’s Day. The stamp highlights the unique perspective of children and honours their creativity by featuring a design created by a young artist.
