Celebrating Creativity and Imagination
Universal Children’s Day, celebrated every year on 14 November, is a special occasion dedicated to reaffirming our commitment to the well-being, rights, and development of children. In India, this day also marks the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, who was affectionately known as “Chacha Nehru” by children for his deep love and concern for their welfare.
Stamp Design Competition for Children’s Day
To celebrate this important day, the India Post releases a special postage stamp every year designed by children themselves. The stamp designs are selected through an All India Stamp Design Competition, which encourages young minds to express their creativity and imagination through art.
For this year’s competition, the themes were “My Favourite Mythological Hero” and “My Favourite Fairy Tale.” The entries received from across the country beautifully reflected the creativity and optimism of India’s young generation, highlighting their connection with culture, tradition, and storytelling.
Winning Designs Featured on the Stamps
The two postage stamps released this year are based on the winning paintings by:
- Master Keval Thakkar, a student of Amarjyoti Saraswati Vidyalaya, Kalvibid, Bhavnagar, Gujarat — First Prize (Group I)
- Master Shivanna T. Madvi, a student of Dada Vaidya High School, Curti, Ponda, Goa — First Prize (Group II)
The Miniature Sheet features a painting by Anu Vijayan from Kerala, who won First Prize in Group III of the competition.
First Day Cover and Maxim Cards
The First Day Cover design is based on a painting by Sagar Sen of Morning Star School, Agarpara, West Bengal, who secured Second Prize in Group III.
The three Maxim Cards showcase paintings created by:
- Kumari Pallavi Majumdar, Vidya Bharti Girls’ High School, New Alipore, Kolkata — Second Prize, Group II
- Ms. Shilpa S. Kulkarni, Prathmik Marathi School, Solapur, Maharashtra — Second Prize, Group I
- Master Mitrajit Sharma, Faculty Higher Secondary School, Guwahati — Third Prize, Group III
A Tribute to Young Talent
Through this initiative, India Post celebrates the creativity and imagination of children across the country. The Department of Posts proudly released a Commemorative postage stamp, designed by young artists to mark Children’s Day and honour the boundless talent of India’s future generation.
