Shahi Litchi of Bihar- Commemorative Postage Stamp
A Jewel of Bihar’s Orchards
The Shahi Litchi, a premium fruit variety of Bihar, is renowned for its crimson-red skin, rich aroma, and exceptional sweetness. Cultivated in the fertile lands of Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Vaishali, and nearby districts, this variety has earned global recognition with the prestigious GI Tag No. 552.
Distinctive Features of Shahi Litchi
Shahi Litchi is prized for its high pulp-to-seed ratio, juicy texture, and mouth-watering taste. The fruit contains 58–67% pulp, enriched with natural sugars, vitamins C, and essential minerals, making it both refreshing and nutritious. With its balanced sugar-acid blend, it is one of India’s most sought-after summer fruits.
Cultivation and Harvest
The Shahi Litchi tree is semi-vigorous, growing up to 6–10 meters with dense green foliage. Its fruits mature early, typically harvested from May to June, delighting consumers at the peak of summer. Each tree yields between 80–135 kg of fruits, ensuring both economic value for farmers and abundant supply for markets.
Legacy of Taste and Aroma
What sets the Shahi Litchi apart is its attractive color, distinct fragrance, and irresistible flavor. These attributes not only define its uniqueness but also elevate Bihar’s reputation in global horticulture.
A Stamp of Heritage
To honor this natural treasure, the Department of Posts proudly issues a commemorative postage stamp on Shahi Litchi of Bihar. This stamp is a tribute to the state’s rich agricultural legacy, celebrating a fruit that embodies both heritage and taste.
