The Industries Fair of 1961, occurring within the first year of the third five-year plan for national development, is a significant event showcasing the progress of Indian industry. Organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, this fair aims to highlight India’s journey towards a self-sustaining and self-generating economy, building upon the achievements of the first two Five Year Plans.
Taking place at the Mathura Road exhibition Grounds, which have hosted numerous national and international exhibitions, both industrial and agricultural, the fair opens its doors on November 14, 1961. Alongside various sectors of Indian industry, the event features participation from several foreign countries, including industrially advanced nations and some developing countries.
The fair provides a platform for manufacturers and businessmen to foster closer national and international connections, facilitating collaboration and exchange of ideas. To commemorate the inauguration of this significant event, the Indian Posts & Telegraph Department is issuing a special postage stamp. The stamp features the design of the proposed tower gate of the fair, symbolizing industry and its progress with the cogwheel motif.
