Since 1876, World Homoeopathic Conventions and Congresses have been convening, with India now hosting the International Homeopathic Congress for the second time. The previous Congress in India was held in 1967. Around 2,000 experts in Homoeopathy from across the globe are expected to participate in the current Congress, which will focus on discussions related to homoeopathy in pediatrics, heart disease, cancer, as well as its applications in dentistry and veterinary medicine. The Congress will also review the progress made in research since its last session.
Homoeopathy, founded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann of Germany, originated during experiments with cinchona bark in 1790, with the first experiments published in 1796. The International Homeopathic League was established in 1925 with permanent headquarters in Geneva, reflecting the growing popularity and international collaboration in this field.
With increasing patronage from the public and recognition from the Government, India has emerged as one of the leading countries in Homoeopathy. The current Congress aims to highlight the significant role this system of medicine can play in India, particularly in providing affordable medical aid to the vast rural population.
The Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department is pleased to issue a commemorative postage stamp marking the XXXII International Homoeopathic Congress held in New Delhi from October 6-11, 1977.
