The events of last September, when Pakistan launched its military aggression against us, plunged the Indian Republic into a crisis of unprecedented proportions. Despite not seeking conflict, our nation found itself thrust into a war situation. While war is always tragic, it can sometimes serve to strengthen a nation’s resolve and reaffirm its core values. India emerged from this turmoil with its spirit unbroken, its unity intact, and its commitment to secular and liberal ideals unwavering.
The bravery and unity displayed by our Armed Forces in the face of external aggression serve as a shining example to us all. Despite the overwhelming odds stacked against us, our Armed Forces stood firm and repelled the enemy’s advances. Their resilience and determination ensured the integrity of our motherland.
Although the conflict was brief, its impact was profound. We witnessed acts of heroism and sacrifice on both land and in the skies, as our soldiers fought valiantly to defend our borders. The memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice will forever be etched in the collective memory of our nation.
Republic Day 1966 held special significance, as we honored the brave soldiers who fought and triumphed on the battlefield, as well as those who made the ultimate sacrifice. As the nation paid homage to these heroes, the Posts and Telegraphs Department humbly joins in by issuing a special commemorative postage stamp to honor the Indian Armed Forces.
