Jamnalal Bajaj was a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement, known for his dedication to social welfare and advocacy against untouchability. He served as the Secretary of the Anti-untouchability Committee of the Indian National Congress, actively participating in movements like the Salt Satyagraha led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930. As a result of his involvement, he was arrested and sentenced to two years’ rigorous imprisonment.
Apart from his role in the freedom struggle, Jamnalal Bajaj also campaigned for popular governments in the princely states of India, promoted women’s education, and advocated for the preservation of cattle, particularly through the protection of cows. His efforts culminated in the establishment of the Go-Seva Sangh.
Jamnalal Bajaj’s untimely demise on February 11, 1942, was mourned across the nation, reflecting the profound impact of his contributions. The P & T Department takes pride in honoring this patriot and noble son of India by issuing a special postage stamp in his honor, recognizing his embodiment of the best in Indian culture and tradition.
