Kakaji Maharaj, affectionately known as P.P. Dadukaka, is revered as a spiritual master by his followers. An original thinker, philosopher and exceptional organiser, he made significant contributions to spiritual thought and social reform within the Swaminarayan Sampradaya.
Early Life and Education
Kakaji Maharaj hailed from Karamsad in Gujarat. His education spanned across several cities including Nadiad, Nairobi, Colombo and London. He initially pursued a career as an entrepreneur and successfully managed a large business enterprise. However, spiritual pursuits always remained central to his life.
Spiritual Awakening
In 1952, Kakaji Maharaj attained spiritual enlightenment, which transformed the course of his life. Thereafter, he dedicated himself entirely to the service of God and his devotees, known as Satsangis. His teachings emphasised inner transformation and direct spiritual experience.
Spiritual Lineage
He was one of the spiritual successors of Yogiji Maharaj, a proponent of the Akshar Purushottam Darshan. Kakaji Maharaj carried forward this spiritual tradition with deep commitment and innovation.
Social and Spiritual Contributions
One of his most notable contributions was towards women’s emancipation within the Swaminarayan faith. Breaking traditional barriers, he initiated a movement that brought women into the forefront of spiritual activities, promoting equality and participation.
His teachings offered practical techniques to:

- Transcend Prakriti (inner limitations)
- Attune oneself with God
- Channel divine (Brahmic) energy
- Apply spirituality to solve everyday challenges

Kakaji Maharaj authored several books and articles on spirituality and tantra, many of which were based on his own experiences. He also founded the Yogi Divine Society, an institution dedicated to nurturing spiritual awareness and training individuals in the pursuit of higher consciousness.
Message and Legacy
His enduring message was that of Suhrad Bhav, meaning spiritual brotherhood and universal harmony. Through his teachings and organisational work, he inspired countless followers to lead a life rooted in spirituality, compassion and unity.
Commemoration
In recognition of his profound spiritual contributions, India Post issued a commemorative postage stamp in honour of Kakaji Maharaj.
