Early Life

Karpoor Chandra ‘Kulish’, the founder of Rajasthan Patrika, one of the most widely read and respected Hindi newspapers in India, was born on 20th March, 1926 in Soda village of Tonk district, Rajasthan. From humble beginnings, he rose to become a towering figure in Indian journalism.

Journey in Journalism

Kulish began his career in journalism as an employee in a newspaper. Driven by dedication and vision, he founded Rajasthan Patrika in 1956 as an evening newspaper. Under his leadership and editorial direction, the publication soon emerged as a front runner among Hindi newspapers, gaining credibility for its fearless and objective journalism.

Scholar, Poet and Philosopher

Beyond journalism, Karpoor Chandra ‘Kulish’ was a poet, thinker, philosopher and a scholar of the Vedas. He was deeply influenced by India’s ancient cultural heritage, especially the teachings of the Vedas and Upanishads. Reflecting this inspiration, Rajasthan Patrika published sixty books on the Vedas under his guidance, contributing significantly to the preservation and dissemination of ancient Indian wisdom.

Literary Contributions

Kulish authored several literary works in Hindi. His well-known collection of poems, “Saat Senkara”, written in simple yet profound language, explores the nature and mysteries of the universe from a Vedic perspective. In his later years, he penned a highly popular column titled “Polampol”, which offered insightful commentary on contemporary issues and current affairs, particularly in Rajasthan.

Karpoor Chandra ‘Kulish’ is remembered for the courage of his convictions. Awards and Honours

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to journalism, Kulish received several prestigious awards. He was honoured with the B. D. Goenka Foundation Award in 1990 for outstanding contribution in the Indian Language Newspaper category. He was also conferred the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Award in 2000.

Legacy

Karpoor Chandra ‘Kulish’ passed away on 17th January, 2006, leaving behind a rich legacy of fearless journalism, literary excellence and philosophical thought.
