The Vadhu Dhoni is a traditional Maldivian fishing boat, crafted locally for reef and coastal fishing. Designed with a narrow wooden hull, it moves smoothly through lagoons and open seas, making it ideal for island waters.

While most Dhonis today are powered by inboard motors, some still preserve their traditional sailing features, keeping alive the seafaring spirit of the Maldives. Commonly used for handline fishing, the Vadhu Dhoni reflects the nation’s rich maritime heritage and the deep connection between island life and the ocean.
