Indian National Parks

On May 31, 2007, India Post issued a spectacular se-tenant stamp set titled "Indian National Parks," celebrating the country’s extraordinary wildlife, rich ecosystems, and natural heritage. As illustrated in image_e49f72.png, this issue was presented as a beautifully coordinated vertical strip of five individual stamps with a total face value of Rs. 25. The continuous design seamlessly transitions through diverse forest landscapes, capturing India’s rich biodiversity which includes over 500 species of mammals, 2,000 species of birds, 500 species of reptiles, and nearly 30,000 species of insects. The set features a panoramic look at some of the country's most iconic protected areas and their flagship species: Bandhavgarh National Park: Showcasing the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger prowling through its historic, hilly terrain. Kaziranga National Park: Featuring the prehistoric-looking Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros amidst its signature tall elephant grass and marshlands. Kanha & Periyar National Parks: Highlighting thriving herds of Indian elephants, gaur (Indian bison), and various deer species roaming their protected habitats. By dedicating this special se-tenant issue to these sanctuaries, India Post drew attention to the vital role these protected areas play in maintaining ecological balance and preserving rare ecosystems. The issue remains a classic favorite for thematic philatelists focusing on fauna, flora, and environmental conservation, standing as a visual reminder of India's long-standing tradition of valuing and protecting its natural wealth.
