Traditionally, the Fleet Review is conducted once during the tenure of the President of India, who, as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, inspects the Indian Navy’s might at sea.

A Fleet Review is far more than a ceremonial gathering—it is a symbolic reassurance to the nation that its maritime forces are combat-ready, vigilant, and capable of safeguarding the nation’s interests at sea. On this solemn occasion:

• All operational warships, submarines, and naval aircraft are meticulously prepared in a spirit of loyalty and allegiance.
• The ceremony begins with a 21-gun salute.
• The President then embarks on the Presidential Yacht, distinguished by the Ashoka Emblem, and reviews the assembled fleet while cruising past the ships.

Through this grand spectacle, the Indian Navy reaffirms its unwavering commitment to defending India’s maritime frontiers.

The 2022 edition of the President’s Fleet Review was particularly significant, as it marked 75 years of the Indian Navy’s service to the nation. With the theme “Indian Navy – 75 Years in Service to the Nation”, the event offered a breathtaking display of naval power and maritime excellence.

For the first time, the world witnessed a three-dimensional showcase of:

• Surface warships,
• Sub-surface submarines, and
• Aerial assets of the Indian Navy.

This demonstration not only highlighted India’s growing blue-water capabilities but also reaffirmed the Navy’s expanding role in securing international sea lanes and fostering global maritime peace.
