Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh (1898–1965), popularly known as Bhausaheb Deshmukh, was a freedom fighter, social reformer, educationist, and one of India’s most respected leaders in the field of agriculture. Early Life of Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh

He remained the President of Bharat Krishak Samaj throughout his life and continued to work for the welfare of farmers until his final days.
Contribution to Education
Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh was also a great supporter of education. He believed that quality education should be available to all, especially to poor and rural students.
To make higher education more accessible, he founded the Shri Shivaji Education Society. This institution opened the doors of education to thousands of students who otherwise would not have been able to continue their studies.
The Shri Shivaji Education Society played an important role in spreading higher education in rural areas and remains one of Dr. Deshmukh’s greatest achievements.
